Corner booths are the layout everyone wants and almost nobody plans for properly. You get two open sides instead of one, which sounds like free real estate, but it also means twice the sightlines to fill and a much easier way to end up with a booth that looks half-finished from one angle even if the front is gorgeous.
The mistake most corner booths make
The default move is to treat a corner like two separate single tables pushed together at 90 degrees. That leaves an awkward dead zone right at the joint, and it means someone approaching from your "side" entrance sees a completely different, usually weaker, presentation than someone approaching from the front. A corner should read as one continuous booth, not two tables that happen to touch.
Design from the joint outward
Start with what happens at the actual corner, since that's the point every visitor's eye crosses regardless of which side they walked in from. A tall, strong visual anchor right at the joint, a banner, your biggest print, or a full-height panel wall, gives both sightlines something to land on and pulls people around the corner instead of letting them peel off after seeing one side.
- Put your highest-impact piece at the corner itself, not buried on either flat side
- Keep both side walls at a similar height so the booth doesn't look lopsided from either entrance
- Leave a walkable gap at the joint if you're working the booth solo, you'll need to move between both sides all day
Two sightlines means two front doors
Treat each open face as its own entrance with its own hook. That doesn't mean duplicating your entire lineup, it means making sure each side has at least one strong piece of art or signage that works even if someone never walks around to the other face. A lot of foot traffic in a corner booth only ever sees one side of it.
Using height to tie both sides together
This is where a taller build actually pays off, because height is visible from both sightlines simultaneously in a way that table-level display isn't. A panel wall that runs the full corner at a consistent build height reads as one cohesive structure from every angle, rather than two separate short walls that happen to meet.
Corner setups are the main reason the Shapeshift Duo Max kit exists at the scale it does, 92 panels and a build height up to 350cm gives you enough material to wrap an actual corner rather than stretching a single-table kit thin across double the linear space.
Don't forget the floor plan, not just the walls
Two open sides means customers can approach from either direction and potentially collide at the corner if your walkway is too narrow. Leave enough clearance at the joint for two people to pass without one having to back out, especially if you expect a queue on busy days.
Corner booth checklist
| Element | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Strong visual at the joint | Every visitor's eye crosses this point regardless of entrance |
| Matching height on both walls | Prevents the booth reading as lopsided from either side |
| A hook piece on each face | Most visitors only ever see one side |
| Clear walkway at the corner | Avoids congestion where both sightlines meet |
A corner booth rewards planning it as one connected space instead of two tables that happen to share an edge. Get the joint right and both sides pull their weight instead of one carrying the booth while the other gets ignored.
