How Much Should You Spend on an Artist Alley Setup?

Nobody tells you the real number before your first table. You see people's finished booths online and have no idea if that setup cost $200 or $2,000. So let's actually talk numbers, because "it depends" isn't useful when you're trying to figure out if you can afford your first show.

The three things you're actually paying for

An artist alley budget breaks into three buckets: the table fee itself, your display setup, and your inventory. The display is the one people either wildly overspend on (hand-built wood shelving that takes two people to carry) or wildly underspend on (a bare tablecloth and hope). Table fees vary a lot by event, anywhere from $50 for a small local market to $400+ for a weekend at a major con. That part's mostly out of your hands. The display is where you have the most control.

Budget tier: getting your first table off the ground

If you're doing your first one or two shows and just want to see if this is for you, don't overbuild. A basic vertical grid, some clip stands for prints, and a cash box gets you started for well under $300 in display costs.
