Our Artist Alley Journey: From Solo Tables to Shared Dreams

Artistbooths v0.1

Hey artists!

You know the feeling of your setup not being as loud as your art or matching well because of a mix and match setup coming from every corner of ebay or kmart. You know the sentiment of starving artists that struggle with time... well we want to change that.

We are here to help, and you’re ready to chat guilt-free at markets while your setups does the selling. Whether its starting up irl with a table or growing online, we want your hustle to become a viable income stream.

We get it because we’ve lived it: portfolio panic, zip-tied dreams, and the classic “I’ll be back” customer shuffle. Artist alley isn’t just a market, it’s a marathon of backaches, wild ideas, and late-night drives chasing that spark that might connect with someone.

What started as a fix for a busted setup turned into a movement, because when no one else was being serious about artist display gear, we did.

If you’ve seen us this year at events, talking up Artistbooths or swapping tips in the aisles, you already know we’re about more than just gear. Now that con season’s winding down (cue collective sigh of relief), we finally get to sit, spill our story, and invite you into what we’re building next for artist alleys across Australia and the world.

Our Paths Crossed in the Alley

Here’s a fun fact: we didn’t all start together. Each of us set out on our own across different states, rolling up to our first Artist Alley tables solo, packed with anxiety, wild dreams, and let’s be honest, some cobbled-together booth hacks. Artist alley life is a trip, right? You meet a wild mix of creatives at every event, and over the years (somewhere between pulling all-nighters and trading survival snacks) we ended up crossing paths again and again at cons all around Australia.

Fast forward a few setups and a few " omg you changed your setup again !" and then a few “wait, didn’t I see you at that last con in Melb/Syd/Bris?” moments, and it finally clicked.

We had the same mission: to shake things up and make life easier (and heaps more fun) for other artists. So, the dream team formed, powered by country-wide experience, trial-and-error, con crunch, and a lot of creative chaos.

Built by artists for artists.

This is a project for and from all of us.

We’re the ones who’ve held our dreams together with zip-ties, who’ve felt the portfolio panic, who’ve chased that late-night urge to make something that might just connect. As the world draws chaos from art generation, we draw real connection by hand.

🛠️ Brandon – Product Multiverse Creator

If you’ve ever spotted a funky gadget or nifty prop in Artist Alley, chances are Brandon whipped it up with a 3D printer. One of our resident ADHD brains (along with Aliss), he’s got a million ideas to solve artist problems mid shower or at midnight.  Backstory : marketer turned -> App product designer  turned artist side hustler. No matter what he does its all about making products that make your life easier.

✨ Aliss – Laser Cutting Whiz & Artist Community

Super eager to chat and make new connections across the alleys, Aliss loves creating small accessories that make people smile. Happy to help in designing practical display pieces that help artists show off their work down to the smallest millimetre. After years of travelling interstate for conventions and helping run alley communities online, she’s learned what both artists and attendees really need and is passionate about turning those shared experiences into ways of supporting the artist community.

Why : Get artists setup, stand out & sold out.

Let’s be real, artist alley is magic and mayhem in equal measure. Between lugging setups across state lines, budgeting for travel, and crossing your fingers for a good weekend, it can feel like a marathon and a mystery rolled into one! That’s why we started making and sourcing gear ourselves: sturdy panels, display grids, smart booth tools etc, so many bits and pieces we wished we’d had back when we started. We’re hands-on, proudly no drop-shipping, and every gadget or panel is designed and tested by us right here in Aus, for you.

Vision: Layering up the artist community online & irl.

But what matters most isn’t the gear, it’s the community! Artist alley isn’t just a market, it’s a home for every creative out there: cosplayers, illustrators, sculptors, zinemakers, and everyone in between. We want to see every corner of this bright, chaotic scene thrive right across the states

We promise to keep it genuine, to solve global artist needs and make new ideas from our shared artist experiences. Australia’s alley scene is bursting with talent and drive, and we’re all about lifting each other up, not just competing for a table. Our long-term vision? We want to be the go-to spot for artists, whether you’re just starting out or looking to level up your booth and brand online. We’re all about making setups faster, lighter, and more personal as artist alley keeps changing. We love tweaking our setups after every con, picking up new tricks, and learning from both our own wins and what we see in the community. Each event is a chance for us to tune things up alongside everyone else, growing and shifting right along with the alley scene.

Let’s Chat! Your Turn.

Okay, enough about us, let’s focus on you! We’re always up for a chat about your display dreams, booth woes, or con plans. Thinking about your next setup? Got a goal for your artist alley hustle? Let’s swap stories, hash out those tricky booth layouts, and figure out how to make your artist alley life a little easier.

We’re always in your corner.

The Artistbooth team,

Brandon, Aliss, & Tim
