Panels, Connectors and Hooks: What's Actually in Every Kit

When people picture a panel display kit, they usually picture the panels and stop there. But a kit is really three separate systems working together, panels, connectors, and hooks, and understanding what each one actually does makes assembly way less mysterious the first time you open the box.

The panels themselves

Every Artist Booths kit uses frosted, light-diffusing polypropylene panels. Frosted matters more than it sounds like it should, it softens harsh convention hall lighting instead of throwing a hard glare back at people walking past, and it lets you backlight sections if you want that glow effect without buying separate lighting gear. Standard panels measure 35 x 35cm, with half-square panels at 35 x 17.5cm for filling gaps or building shorter sections. That sizing isn't arbitrary either, panels pack flat into a footprint that fits the standard 56 x 36 x 23cm carry-on allowance, so you can genuinely fly with a kit instead of shipping it separately.

Kits also include a mix of panel shapes beyond the basic square, half-squares, hinge-squares, triangles, and wire grid or wire frame squares, each one built for a specific structural job (corners, angles, or open see-through sections) rather than just being decorative variety.

The connectors

ABS connectors are what turn a stack of flat panels into a standing structure. They're rigid enough to hold shape under the weight of a fully loaded display, each fully supported panel holds up to 5kg/11lb, but they still snap together and apart by hand. No screws, no tools required for the actual connections. This is the part of the system that makes rebuilding a different layout at your next show realistic instead of a chore, since you're not fighting hardware every time you change your mind about the shape.

The hooks

PLA hooks are what actually holds your merchandise, prints, bagged items, tags, on the panel wall itself. They clip onto the panel grid and can be repositioned without any tools, which matters more than it sounds like when you're rearranging your display mid-show because one section isn't selling and another's picked clean. Being able to move hooks around in two minutes between rush periods is a small thing that adds up over a long show day.

Do you actually need the mallet?

No, but it helps. Connections go together by hand, the mallet just seats joints a bit more firmly and quickly, which is worth it if you're the kind of person doing setup with fifteen minutes on the clock before doors open. If you're building slowly and carefully at home the night before, your hands alone are usually enough.

Why the breakdown matters when you're comparing kits

When people compare Core, Base, Duo, and Duo Max, the panel count gets all the attention, but the connector and hook system is identical across every tier. That's actually the more useful fact: your building skills and your existing hooks or spare connectors from a smaller kit carry forward if you upgrade later.
