Storing Your Booth Setup Between Shows

Your booth spends way more time in storage than it does actually set up at a show. Do the math: maybe two or three days a month it's out in the world, and the rest of the time it's sitting somewhere waiting. How you store it during all that downtime matters more than most people think, right up until they pull out a warped panel or a rusted connector the morning of a show and suddenly it matters a lot.

The enemies of stored gear

Three things quietly wreck display equipment in storage: heat, damp, and being crushed under something heavier for months at a time. None of them announce themselves until you unpack for the next show and something's not right.

• Heat warps plastic components over time, especially if your storage is a garage or a car trunk that regularly hits high temperatures. Polypropylene panels handle moderate heat fine, but a closed car in summer sun for hours is genuinely hot enough to cause slow warping over repeated exposure.
• Damp is more of a concern for anything cardboard, fabric, or paper (signage, table coverings, print stock) than for the panels themselves, but a musty smell soaked into a table runner is a bad surprise to discover the morning of a show.
• Crush weight from stacking heavy bins on top of your display gear "just for now" (which becomes permanent) can bend connectors and stress panels over months, even if nothing visibly cracks right away.

How to actually store it

Keep it flat and keep it top of the stack

Flat panels want to stay flat and unweighted. If your booth gear lives in a storage unit or garage shelf, it should be positioned so nothing heavy sits on top of it, not buried under seasonal decorations and old furniture.

Use the case it traveled in, not a random box

If you've already got a case or bins that work for transport, use the same ones for storage instead of transferring everything into a different setup at home. It's one less packing decision every single time, and it means your gear is always ready to grab.

Climate matters more than people admit

A climate-controlled closet beats a garage, and a garage beats a car trunk, in that order, for anything you're storing more than a few weeks. If a garage or storage unit is your only option, keep gear off the direct concrete floor (a cheap shelf or even a pallet works) since concrete holds and transfers both cold and damp more than people expect.

Separate fragile from sturdy

Panels and connectors can generally handle sharing space with other gear. Signage, prints, and anything with a printed or painted surface should get its own protected spot, ideally somewhere it's not getting compressed by anything heavier.

A quick check before every show, not just once a year

Before you pack for a show, do a fast once-over of what's coming out of storage. Check panels lie flat without visible warping, connectors click together smoothly without excess play, and signage hasn't developed any water spots or fading since last time. It takes ten minutes and it's a lot cheaper than discovering a problem in the parking lot of the venue.

None of this is about babying your gear. A well-made panel kit is built to survive being hauled around and set up dozens of times a year.
