    She had a beautiful custom-printed fabric backdrop. Full colour, gorgeous illustration, professionally printed. It cost over $200 and it was completely invisible.

    We watched foot traffic walk past her booth for twenty minutes. Not one person looked at the backdrop. Every single person looked at the table first, glanced at the products, and moved on. The backdrop was decoration. It was not doing its JOB.

    What A Backdrop Is Actually For

    A backdrop has one purpose: visibility from a distance. It makes someone twenty feet away say "I want to go look at that table." If yours only looks good from five feet, it is a poster, not a backdrop.

    Big shapes. High contrast. Readable from across the room. That is what works. Fine detail and small text disappear in a crowded hall. Your backdrop needs to work at SCALE.

    The Backdrop Versus Display Question

    Most vendors treat the backdrop as separate from the display. Backdrop behind, products in front, never interacting. But the best booths integrate the two.
