What to pack in your emergency kit for show day

You will forget something. Every vendor does, every single time, no matter how many shows you've done. The trick isn't perfect preparation, it's building a kit that catches the stuff you forget before it turns into a real problem.

Here's what's actually worth keeping in a dedicated show-day bag, separate from your product boxes and display gear, so you're not digging through inventory to find a safety pin at 9am.

The stuff that saves your booth

Tape is the single most-used item at any table. Bring at least three kinds: painter's tape (won't rip your tablecloth or signage when you pull it off), double-sided tape for anything that needs to stay put on a vertical surface, and clear packing tape for boxes and last-minute sign repairs. Add a small pair of scissors and a box cutter, zip ties for cable management or securing a wobbly grid wall, and binder clips, which are shockingly good at holding tablecloths down in a room with aggressive air conditioning.

If you're running a Shapeshift Base or bigger panel setup, throw in a couple of extra connectors and a spare hook or two. They're small, they're light, and losing one under a table skirt at 8am is exactly the kind of thing that eats fifteen minutes you don't have.

A cash float matters too, but it's less "emergency kit" and more "the thing you'll kick yourself for forgetting." Bring $150 to $200 in small bills and coins, counted and bagged the night before, not scrounged from your wallet in the car.

The small stuff nobody tells you about

Bring a phone tripod or small stand if you're documenting your booth for social media, a lint roller (fabric backdrops attract everything), and a spare charging cable in a color you'll actually notice when it's tangled in a bag. If you wear glasses, pack a cleaning cloth. If you table with a partner, pack two of everything that's cheap and easy to lose, because you'll each blame the other for taking it.

One thing that's easy to overlook: a printed copy of your vendor confirmation email and booth number. Wifi at convention centers is unreliable, and pulling up a screenshot on 4% battery at 7am load-in is not how you want to start the day.

Keep it in one bag, always

The real secret isn't the list, it's consistency. Use the same bag every time, restock it the night before your next show, and never raid it for personal use during the week. The moment you start treating it as "just a bag" instead of your show-day kit, something goes missing right when you need it.
