What's Actually Different Between the Duo and Duo Max Kits

Duo and Duo Max get lumped together a lot because they're both two-tone kits from the Shapeshift line, but they're built for genuinely different setups. Here's what actually separates them, beyond just "one's bigger."

It's not just panel count

Yes, Duo has 70 panels and Duo Max has 92. But the panel-count gap undersells the real difference, which is what each kit is designed to become. Duo tops out as an excellent full-table display. Duo Max is built to become a full booth. That's a difference in kind, not just size.

Build height is the real tell

Duo runs 105-175cm/41-69in. Duo Max runs 105-350cm/41-138in, exactly double the ceiling. In practice that means Duo maxes out right around where most conventions cap booth height anyway (typically about 175cm, always check your event's specific rules), while Duo Max has headroom to spare for double-height sections, back walls, or corner builds that need to hold their shape across a much bigger footprint. If you never plan to build past head height, that extra range in Duo Max isn't doing anything for you.

Panel breakdown, piece by piece

Notice the square panel count is identical, 48 in both. The extra 22 panels in Duo Max are almost entirely in the structural and specialty pieces, half-squares, hinges, triangles, wire grids and frames. That's the stuff that lets you build corners, angles, and more complex shapes rather than just a bigger flat wall. If your mental image of Duo Max is "Duo but wider," that's not quite it, it's "Duo plus the pieces to build around a corner or up a second level."

Table size is the practical filter

Duo is sized for a full 180cm/6ft table. Duo Max is sized for a 360cm/12ft double table, corner setups, or full convention booths. If you've only ever worked a single 6ft table and have no plans to upgrade your booth situation, Duo Max is more kit than you need, and that's fine to admit, more panels sitting unused isn't a flex. But if you're moving up to a corner booth or a double-wide space, trying to stretch Duo across that footprint will leave visible gaps in your wall that a smaller kit just can't cover.

Price gap reflects the jump

Duo is $949. Duo Max is $1,399, a $450 jump that tracks with the extra panels and the structural pieces needed for bigger, more complex builds. Both share the 8 primary by 8 secondary colour matrix, so you're not paying more for colour options between the two, you're paying for scale and the ability to build shapes Duo's panel mix doesn't include enough of.

Which one is actually right for you

• Full 6ft table, want two-tone flexibility and tall framing when you need it: Duo.
• Double table, corner booth, or planning to build a genuine full booth: Duo Max.
• Not sure yet because your booth situation might grow: Duo is the safer starting point, since a lot of artists upgrade later rather than downsize.

Both kits ship with a rubber mallet, an ITA tote, and a protective carry box, and both use the same frosted, light-diffusing polypropylene panels that pack flat with no tools needed. The decision really comes down to how much table you're filling right now, not which one sounds more impressive.
