Why Some Booths Look Empty Even When They're Full Of Product

Your table is covered. Every inch has something on it. Prints, stickers, pins, keychains, bookmarks, postcards. There is SO much product. And somehow, people glance and keep walking because it looks empty. Here are the five reasons. 1. Everything Is The Same Height When every product sits at the same level, the eye has nowhere to land. It scans across and registers "flat surface." Create height variation with risers, stands, or a modular display kit that builds vertical layers. Same products, completely different impression. 2. No Visual Anchor A visual anchor is the one piece that grabs attention first. Without it, the eye bounces between fifty items and registers none. Pick your hero piece. Give it the MOST space and the best position. 3. The Tablecloth Is Eating Your Products A busy pattern or dark colour camouflages small items. If your stickers are on a dark cloth, they disappear. Light, solid colours work best. Let the products provide all the colour. 4. No Depth In The Layout Everything pushed to the front edge with empty space behind reads as "still setting up." Use the full depth. Front row for impulse items. Middle for your main range. Back for vertical display and hero pieces. Three layers minimum. 5. Too Many Small Items Without Grouping A hundred stickers spread across a table look like confetti. The same stickers grouped by theme in labelled sections look like a well-stocked shop. Group similar items. Give each group a label. Create SECTIONS within your table. The fix for all five is structure. Check our full kit range for displays that add height, depth, and grouping to any table.

Making A Display That Feels Curated, Not Crammed

The Difference Between Full And Finished There's a specific moment at every market where you can spot the booths that planned their display and the ones that just... unpacked. The planned ones feel like a shop. The unpacked ones feel like a storage unit with a tablecloth. The difference isn't money. It's curation. And curation is just another word for knowing what to leave out. Give Every Product Room To Breathe When items are crammed edge to edge, nothing stands out. The customer's eye bounces around with nowhere to land, and they walk on. White space isn't wasted space. It's what makes the pieces next to it look intentional. A practical rule: if you can't slide a business card between two items on your table, they're too close. On your vertical display, leave at least one empty panel width between product groupings. With 35x35cm panels in the modular display kit, that's a natural breathing gap built right into the grid. Create Depth, Not Just Width Flat displays are boring displays. You need layers. Something at the back sitting higher than something at the front. Risers, shelves, panels at different heights. The goal is to create a landscape that has visual depth even from ten feet away. The modular system stacks five panels high (175cm), so you've got vertical real estate most table-only vendors don't. Use it. Pin your hero piece at eye level. Put supporting work below. Keep impulse items at grab height near the table edge. Group By Story, Not By Type Stop grouping all your stickers together, all your prints together, all your pins together. Instead, group by theme or collection. A print, its matching sticker, and a pin from the same series displayed together tells a story. Stories sell better than categories. Think about how a boutique displays an outfit: shirt, pants, accessories together. Not all shirts on one rack. Your booth should work the same way. Edit Before You Pack, Not After You Arrive The worst time to decide what stays and what goes is when you're setting up at 7am with vendors on both sides already halfway done. Make your cut at home. Pack ONLY what makes the display. Keep the rest as backstock. This is harder than it sounds because you're attached to everything you made. But here's the test: if removing a piece doesn't leave a visible gap, it wasn't pulling its weight. Browse the full kit range for sizing that fits your curated selection rather than forcing everything to fit. Frequently Asked Questions How Many Products Should I Actually Display? Depends on your format, but a strong number is 15 to 25 visible items for a standard 180cm table setup. You can stock more underneath, but the visible display should feel edited, not exhaustive. Won't I Lose Sales By Showing Less? The opposite tends to happen. When customers can actually SEE your best work without visual noise, they engage longer and buy more confidently. Fewer displayed items, higher conversion. It's a pattern vendors report over and over. What Do I Do With The Products I Don't Display? Keep them in organised boxes under your table or behind your display. If someone asks "do you have anything else?" you can pull from backstock. Think of it like a shop with a stockroom. The floor sells, the back room restocks.

Building A Look That Works In Every Colour Palette You Sell

You sell stickers in 15 colours. Your prints range from moody dark academia to bright kawaii. Your pin collection covers every fandom from horror to cottagecore. And somehow your booth needs to look like one coherent brand. This is the challenge almost every artist faces. Your art is varied because your audience is varied. But your booth cannot look like a flea market. Here is how to build a display system that stays on-brand no matter what palette you are selling this weekend. Anchor With Hardware, Not Product Your product colours will change from event to event and season to season. Your display hardware should not. Pick a panel colour for your modular display kit that functions as your brand anchor. This is the constant. Everything else rotates around it. Charcoal works with nearly every art style. White works if your art tends dark. Navy reads sophisticated and handles both warm and cool product palettes. The point is choosing ONCE and committing. Your panels, your tablecloth, and your signage form the container. The art inside changes. The container stays. Group By Temperature, Not By Product Type Most artists organise their displays by format: prints here, stickers there, pins in that corner. But visually, format does not matter. Colour temperature does. Group your warm-toned products together and your cool-toned products together, regardless of whether they are prints, stickers, or pins. This creates visual "zones" that each feel cohesive. A cluster of warm reds, oranges, and golds next to a cluster of blues, purples, and greens reads as intentional curation. The same products scattered randomly reads as chaos. Use Neutral Buffers Between Zones When you have two colour zones that would clash if placed side by side, put a neutral buffer between them. This can be a gap, a section of undecorated panel, a business card display, or a price list. Anything that gives the eye a rest between competing palettes. The full kit range kits with more panels (the Shapeshift 70 or Max 92) give you enough display surface to create real spacing between zones. Smaller kits work too, you just need to be more selective about how many colour palettes you show at once. The Three-Palette Maximum At any given event, try to limit your visible product to three colour palettes. Not three colours. Three palettes (groups of related colours). Warm earth tones is one palette. Cool pastels is another. Dark moody tones is a third. Even if you HAVE inventory in ten palettes, showing three keeps the booth readable. Rotate which three palettes you feature based on the event audience. Anime conventions get the bright palettes. Craft fairs get the earthy ones. Your display colour stays the same regardless. That is how you build a look that works everywhere. Frequently Asked Questions What if my best sellers are all over the colour map? Lead with your top three sellers regardless of colour, then fill around them with pieces that are in the same temperature range. One "wildcard" piece in a different palette is fine. Five wildcards is visual noise. Should I get multiple sets of coloured panels for different events? Only if your brand has genuinely different sub-brands that require it. Most artists are better served by one neutral display colour that works everywhere. Buying extra colour panels to match specific product runs gets expensive and adds setup complexity for minimal gain. How do I display black and white art alongside colourful pieces? Black and white art is the ultimate neutral. It can sit next to any colour zone without clashing. Use it as your buffer zone between two colourful sections, or give it its own panel column at one end of the display.

Why Cohesion Beats Clutter Every Single Time

You know that booth you walk past and think "there is a lot going on there"? That is clutter winning. And clutter always loses to cohesion when it comes to sales. Here are the reasons why keeping it tight beats cramming it all in. The eye needs a path. When everything competes for attention, nothing gets it. A cohesive booth guides the eye from your banner to your hero piece to your price sheet. A cluttered one gives the viewer 47 entry points and they bounce off all of them. One focal piece displayed cleanly on a modular display kit pulls harder than 30 prints taped to a pegboard. Fewer items means more perceived value. This is retail psychology 101. A table covered edge to edge with product reads as bargain bin. The same products with breathing room between them read as curated. Space is a signal. It says "each of these is worth looking at." Cohesion photographs better. Your booth will be photographed. By customers, by other artists, by event photographers. A cohesive setup reads as one image. Clutter reads as visual noise. The booth that looks good in a phone photo gets shared. The cluttered one gets cropped out. You can restock without reorganising. When your layout is clean and structured, pulling a sold print and sliding in a replacement takes five seconds. When everything is crammed together, selling one piece means rearranging the whole table. You lose time, and you lose the customer who was browsing while you were fiddling. Decision fatigue is real. A customer who sees 80 prints leaves without buying because they could not decide. A customer who sees 20 well-displayed prints picks their favourite in under a minute. The full kit range lets you go vertical with tiered shelving instead of spreading flat, which means fewer pieces visible at once but each one getting the attention it deserves. Setup and teardown get faster. A planned, cohesive layout goes up the same way every time. You know where everything goes. There is no "figuring it out" at 7am while the venue is opening doors in 30 minutes. Less stuff, better placed, assembled in a system you have rehearsed. That is how you start the day calm instead of frantic. Your brand becomes recognisable. When your booth looks the same at every event (same colour panels, same layout logic, same display density), people start recognising you before they read your sign. Clutter changes shape every show because you are reacting to whatever fits. Cohesion is a repeatable system. And repeatable systems build brands.
