Here's the honest safety talk so your panels don't bend or snap on you mid-con. The whole system is built to be portable and modular, which also means it's a little over-engineered for how much abuse a booth actually takes. Treat it with basic care and it'll outlast a lot of con seasons. Here's how to keep things solid, and pain-free, literally. Now go build something that doesn't fall over. Build tips for a stable wall Whether you're working with Core, Shapeshift Base, Duo, or Duo Max, the same basic build logic applies across all of them, they share the same connector system, just different panel counts and shapes. Keep it balanced. Strong walls start with a solid base, think pyramid, not tower. Heavier items go low, lighter pieces up top. If a section feels wobbly, add a horizontal panel or wire-frame insert to brace it rather than piling on more height. Distribute weight evenly across the wall. Loading up one side and leaving the other bare is the most common cause of a lean by end of day. Making the panels last The frosted polypropylene panels are tough, but they're not indestructible, and a little care goes a long way toward getting years out of a kit instead of one con season. Don't bend and snap. When seating a panel into a connector, use both hands and push evenly along the edge going into the joint, or use the mallet that ships with your kit if it's not sliding in easily by hand. Don't force it in at an angle. How they actually break. Applying bending pressure inward, toward the center of the panel, is the fastest way to snap a joint. Every panel has a flex limit, and pushing past it stresses the weld point, not the flat part of the panel. Pop and lock properly. Slide connectors all the way in, then release gently rather than yanking. Fully seating each panel into the bottom of its connector matters, shallow seating creates small gaps that add up into a visibly uneven wall by the time you've built the whole thing. When breaking down, always pull straight back out in the same direction you inserted it. Bending a connector sideways to free it is how connectors crack. Don't step on them. Flat panels on the floor are slippery, closer to a skateboard than a welcome mat. Bad for your ankles and bad for the panel. Mind the weather. Direct sun and rain both wear down the finish and the adhesion on any stuck-on hooks over time. Keep panels under cover at outdoor markets when you can. Normal wear is fine. Small scuffs near corners and connector points are completely normal and mostly invisible once everything's assembled. That's just what a panel that's actually been used looks like. Weight limit. Each fully, four-corner-supported panel holds up to 5kg (about 11lb). That's per panel, not per wall, so spread heavier items across multiple supported panels rather than loading one spot. Small parts, big caution. Connectors and hooks are small enough to be a choking hazard. Keep them away from young kids and curious pets during setup and teardown. Packing for travel Wrap connector pieces in your tablecloth or the kit's own packaging so they don't scratch against each other in transit, and keep anything sharp or pointy away from direct contact with the panels. If you're flying, ask for a fragile sticker at check-in. It's free and it noticeably cuts down on rough handling. Attaching adhesive hooks Adhesive hooks bond properly if you give them the full 24 hours to cure before loading any weight. Lay the panel flat, face up. Wipe it down dry. No water, no cleaning spray, no isopropyl. Moisture ruins the bond before it starts. Peel one side of the adhesive backing and stick it to the hook. Peel the other side and press the hook onto the panel, holding firm pressure for 3 to 5 seconds. Leave the panel flat and completely undisturbed for 24 hours. No moving it, no hanging anything yet. Heat and humidity both weaken the bond while it's curing, so room temperature is what you want, not a hot car or a stuffy storage unit.
